Legend has it that Pizza Margherita originated in Naples as a special creation for Queen Margherita.
Presented with various pizza options, her favorite showcased the colors of the Italian flag – green basil, white mozzarella, and red tomato sauce.
This recipe is no different.
Ingredients:
- 2 pizza dough balls
- 10.5 ounces Mozzarella
- 14 ounces Passata
- 8 basil leaves
- Extra virgin olive oil
- Salt
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 410°F.
- Prepare your pizza dough.
- In the passata, add 2-3 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil and a pinch of salt; stir well.
- Chop the mozzarella into small cubes or slices.
- Take a pizza dough ball, roll it out with a rolling pin or flatten and stretch with your hands.
- Spread a couple of ladles of the prepared tomato sauce evenly over the thin pizza base, leaving a gap around the perimeter.
- Evenly distribute the mozzarella over the base and drizzle with more olive oil.
- Repeat the process with the second dough ball, preparing both for cooking.
- Cook the pizzas in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes or until done to your liking.
- Finish by placing or tearing the basil leaves and sprinkling them over your pizza.
